Student athlete spread rumor about coach
Defendant Kyle Bowles was Justin Dubs’s student. Dubs was also Bowles’s varsity basketball coach. Bowles made up a rumor that Dubs had kissed her after a scrimmage. Dubs was later forced to resign from his teaching and coaching positions and he sued for defamation. The first trial ended in a mistrial. The second trial proceeded to verdict.
