Sunflowers shine during drought in western North Dakota
Mandan, North Dakota, farmer, Lance Renner, and his father, Dennis, expect strong sunflower production and think they’ll be combining flowers by the end of October. They have been dealing with harvesting edible beans, some of which have greened up after late-season rains. National Agricultural Statistics Service weekly crop condition and progress report shows only 22% of the state’s sunflowers are good to excellent.
