Kewadin Casinos Gaming Authority has to pay a settlement to the development companies and law firm it has collaborated with on unsuccessful casino project.

The Sault tribe was facing a potential $90 million judgement over the failure to build casinos in Lansing and Huron Township.

Under the agreement, Kewadin Casinos will pay its former partners JLLJ Development and Lansing Future Development II a total of $25 million by April 12, 2023.

The settlement is far less than the $88.8 million in damages Ingham County Circuit Judge Joyce Draganchuk awarded to development companies.

A judge ruled the tribes gaming hand, Kewadin Casinos Gaming Authority, has to pay $88.8 million to the New Boston and Lansing development companies.

The hearing comes after lawyers discovered a resolution from the tribe to restructure its finances in September after the $89 million judgment.

Where plaintiffs invested in two casinos that were never built, the plaintiffs are entitled to a judgment in their favor after the defendant tribe was defaulted.

"The Sault Tribe is deeply concerned with what it has discovered in reading the Court’s opinion,” Sault Tribe Chairman Austin Lowes said.
