James Webb telescope finds water in roiling disk of gas around ultra-hot star for 1st time ever

The James Webb Space Telescopes discovery of water and other molecules in the inner region of a hot protoplanetary disk suggests that rocky, Earth-like planets may be able to form in some very extreme environments.

Rocky planets can form near more massive stars than previously known: study

A study of one of the most extreme, radiation-heavy environments in the universe has found that it might be possible for rocky planets comprised of water, carbon and other familiar molecules to form under far more intense circumstances than previously believed.

Webb study reveals rocky planets can form in

An international team of astronomers has used NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to provide the first observation of water and other molecules in the highly irradiated inner, rocky-planet-forming regions of a disk in one of the most extreme environments in our galaxy. These results suggest that the conditions for terrestrial planet formation can occur in a possible broader range of environments than previously thought.
