The Richmond Dept. of Social Services said it has made improvements to staffing levels but is still falling short of state and federal expectations.

Richmond Schools is proposing new policies on how students are approved for graduation participation following concerns from some Richmond School Board members.

“They can’t wait, and the reason they can’t wait is because they’re in need. Most of the time when people ask for help, they’re in need," healthcare advocate Latisha Carson said.

When it comes to dealing with Richmond's Department of Social Services, Latisha Carson said it can take up to weeks or months to get benefits approved or even talk to a case worker.
