The City of Columbus had repeatedly cited the complex for extensive health code violations.

For over a year, the Latitude Five25 apartments have stood vacant after burst pipes caused heating and electrical problems.

A Franklin County Magistrate has recommended a penalty of $19.8 million against the owners and property manager of Latitude Five25 in Columbus.

“We are in desperate need for more housing, and the community would like to be part of that conversation," said Near East Side Area Commission Chair Kate Curry-Da-Souza.

The payments will come from the $1.5 million settlement city officials reached with the former owners of the complex in January.

The payments, of $10,067 for each of the 149 households affected, will be available on April 1, according to the city attorney's office.
