The Crucial T700 looks like most PCIe 5.0 drives, with super speed, large heatsink and a high price, but that only tells part of the story.

The Crucial P5 Plus first launched way back in 2021, alongside the launch of the PlayStation 5. But, how does it stack up in 2024?

The Sabrent Rocket 5 is one of the fastest SSDs on the market, and the fastest drive we’ve ever tested in terms of sustained writes. It still has high power consumption and low power efficiency, like other PCIe 5.0 drives, but desktop enthusiasts wont care.

The PNY CS3150 is yet another PCIe 5.0 SSD, setting itself apart with a dual-fan cooler with optional RGB lighting. Performance is good and the dual fans arent loud and help the drive stay very cool. However, it offers little new and tends to be expensive, and we cant currently find the 2TB model for sale.

Our review shows the Crucial T705 is the fastest PCIe 5.0 SSD around, though it comes at an equally high price.

Seagate’s Game Drive M.2 SSD for PS5 hits all the essential points for a PS5 drive, leveraging the reliable and performant base of its FireCuda 530. It doesn’t take any risks, but doesn’t need to either.

The Max14um shows that Phison really can hit 14 GB/s with some elbow grease. Performance is record-setting, although power and thermals remain looming problems.

The Micron 3500 borrows technology from the retail Crucial T500 to provide high performance with good power efficiency in a client NVMe SSD. It still stumbles a bit with sustained performance, but on the whole its a great PCIe 4.0 drive.

Crucial shows it can deliver 4TB of flash at speeds over 12 GB/s. While 14 GB/s lies on the near horizon, the T700 returns as the king of high performance, high capacity SSDs. Its the fastest, most capacious SSD we’ve tested to date.

The Adata Legend 970 takes no risks, but it’s still one of the fastest drives out there. It’s a bit of a niche product with ample competition, but Adata fielded a competitive SSD.
