Three students shared their personal experiences with The Journal as Palestinian Muslim students at Queen’s. Students’ fear of hate and discrimination has been heightened since war broke out in the Middle East in October.

Approximately 100 students and community members gathered on Nov. 29 to show their solidarity with Palestine during a community vigil on campus. Organized by the Queen’s chapter of Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR), the vigil in Gordon Hall was centred around paying tribute to martyrs in Palestine.

AMS Assembly, held Nov. 21, had students of diverse backgrounds share their personal experiences of discrimination and the pain of the war happening in Palestine. Students at-large urged student leaders to take a stand. After three hours of speakers, assembly adjourned before any other topic was discussed.

Hundreds of Western students, professors and students from other Ontario universities marched on campus Sunday afternoon, calling on Western to take action to combat anti-Palestinian racism and reinstate dismissed Muslim

As part of the Pan-Canadian Day of Action, a protest took place in downtown Kingston on Nov. 12. Over 800 protestors in attendance urged the Government of Canada to call for a ceasefire in Gaza on the international stage. CeasefireNOW, and an ad-hoc coalition of over 200 pan-Canadian labour, faith, and civil society organizations, coordinated protests all over Canada.
