Malaria Parasite's Survival Found to Be Tied to Two Key Proteins

Understanding the exact function of a specific pair of proteins could lead to the discovery of new therapeutic strategies to fight malaria, according to researchers. Using advanced genome editing technology, the scientists were able to show that these two proteins (RAP01 and RAP21) are intimately linked to P. falciparumโ€™s mitochondria. Without these proteins, the mitochondria cannot ensure the parasiteโ€™s function and it dies.
