SIR – As a GP I very much welcome Rishi Sunak’s proposals to remove from GPs the task of signing sick notes (report, April 19).

SIR – Royal Mail’s £5 charge for customers who receive forged stamps (Leading Article, April 12) is misguided and unjust. These people have done nothing wrong, and are being penalised for a crime that others have committed.

SIR – My wife had an accident and injured her hand, which was competently treated at A&E. The wound needs re-dressing every two days, yet when she contacted our local GP on March 26, she was told that the next available nurse appointment was on April 16.

SIR – E.ON Next refused to give me access to its cheapest tariffs unless I agreed to have smart meters installed. It is, however, perfectly willing to offer me more expensive tariffs than the ones I am already on.

SIR – The uproar in the House of Commons during the debate on a ceasefire in Gaza (report, February 22) revealed an unfortunate sense of self-importance on the part of its members.

SIR – In the 1980s and 1990s, my father was the Conservative deputy leader, and later leader, of Derbyshire County Council – then the most Marxist in the country.

SIR – Much of the talk about a “technical” recession (report, telegraph.co.uk, February 15) overlooks the true story of GDP. GDP per capita has fallen every quarter since early 2022 and is now 1.7 per cent smaller. The Conservatives have presided over the longest contraction of GDP per capita since 1955. A change of government to Labour will not improve this. It’s scandalous that 4,000 people a day are signed off as “sick”. We can continue to treat this ...

SIR – I am Jewish, and my family and I have been proud British citizens throughout our lives, contributing to society and serving in the Armed Forces in the Second World War to defend our country against those who wanted the end of the Jewish race.

SIR – The police came unstuck by downgrading vetting of applicants, which allowed criminals and coercive people to join – with tragic results.

SIR – After the extraordinary events of the past four years, the significance of the United States to the world remains beyond doubt. We need a well-led America to look up to.
