UC San Diego: Undergraduate Researchers Earn Goldwater Scholarship

Share Three UC San Diego undergraduate students with impressive academic and research credentials were selected to receive the Goldwater Scholarship, designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue research careers in the fields of the natural sciences, engineering and mathematics. The Goldwater Scholarship, which provides students up to $7,500 toward tuition, books and fees, is the preeminent undergraduate award of its type in these fields. The scholarship is named in honor of Senator Barry Goldwater, and this year was administered in partnership with the Department of Defense National Defense Education Programs. Bioengineering students Aditi Gnanasekar and Claire Zhang, and physics student Mara Casebeer, received the scholarship in recognition of their research contributions and plans to pursue careers in research.

Penn State s Board of Trustees approves new engineering building, demolition of Hammond Building | University Park Campus News

During its May 7 meeting, the Penn State Board of Trustee s Committee on Governance and Long-Range Planning approved a $228 million proposal to build a new research and teaching building on west campus. Tentatively named the Research & Teaching Building and deemed The Penn State University West 1 project by the Office of Physical Plant, the new building will be âlocated at the terminus of the Westgate ramp,â according to the Office of Physical Plantâs website. The new building will feature the Department of Aerospace and Acoustics, the Department of Architectural Engineering and the Department of Civil Engineering, according to the Office of Physical Plant.

Students arrive for first day at new Middleborough High School

Just after 7 am on Tuesday, the first buses and students arrived at the new Middleborough High School via the new student entrance from Wood Street, and just like that, a new era began for the whole community. In addition to students and staff, Superintendent Brian Lynch and MHS Principal Paul Branagan welcomed a handful of town officials and residents for a quick, celebratory look around, but after that, it was straight to class, back to business. Around mid-morning, Superintendent Lynch emailed with his impressions of the first early-morning arrival of students at the new building. “As I watched this year s students walk into their brand new high school for the first time this morning, I was trying to envision the positive impact this new facility will have on them and the generations of students to follow,” he said.
