Some Wyoming lawmakers say they share national security concerns about a bitcoin mining company with ties to China within a mile of F.E. Warren Air Force Base that’s drawing scrutiny from several federal agencies.

The U.S. government was initially unbothered by the Bitcoin mine in Wyoming, but things changed when Microsoft submitted a report to the Committee on Foreign Investment in August 2022.

Bitcoin mining operations in the United States, owned by Chinese entities, are currently under investigation for potential issues that could threaten national security, according to the New York Times (NYT).

U.S. Pentagon officials are keeping close tabs on a Wyoming-based Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) operation owned by Chinese interests amid fears of potential national security risks.

Microsoft reported one site in Wyoming because of its proximity to a data center and nuclear missile base. Records show other cryptocurrency facilities have ties to the Chinese state.

In an August 2022 report to the Committee on Foreign Investment, Microsoft warned the mine could allow the Chinese to pursue full-spectrum intelligence collection operations.
