The future of White’s Ferry is once again in jeopardy as the new owners say they can no longer see a way to work with the owners of the Virginia-side landing.

Historic White's Ferry owner Chuck Kuhn accuses Rockland Farm landowner of insulting him. But Rockland Farm claims an offer for arbitration is on the table.

Loudoun County, Virginia, and Montgomery County, Maryland, are looking to restore ferry service across the Potomac River. The historic White’s Ferry that once carried hundreds of commuters between the states closed in December following a court decision that said the ferry’s landing site had trespassed on land owned by Rockland Farm. Chuck Kuhn, chief executive of JK Moving Services, has purchased the popular water shuttle between Virginia and Maryland, which has been shuttered since December.

The Kuhns will be working with Peter Brown, the majority owner of Rockland Farm, to get the ferry up and running for nearly 800 daily users. “White’s Ferry has provided an important and scenic transportation alternative to the swelling demands on our local roads,” Kuhn said. “We look forward to working with nearby landowners and local jurisdictions to make this viable for the region.” The purchase includes the ferry, the store and the shore on which the ferry is operated.
