The No. 2 seed Jefferson City Lady Jays and top-seeded Helias Lady Crusaders knew they would be in for a battle in the Class 5 District 5 Tournament title game at Washington High School. And that is exactly how it played out, as the Lady Jays took an early lead and held on for dear life late for a wire-to-wire 43-41 victory for their fifth district championship in the past seven seasons.

The Jefferson City Lady Jays scored the first 16 points Tuesday night against the Sedalia Smith-Cotton Lady Tigers and never looked back, picking up a 69-29 Central Missouri Activities Conference victory at Fleming Fieldhouse. With a conference title as a goal for the season, starting out with a win in their first CMAC game is a good step for the Lady Jays.

When the Jefferson City Lady Jays broke the huddle during a timeout with :05.8 on the clock, Hannah Linthacum took her spot on the right block, awaiting the in-bounds play. The Lady Jays’ 6-foot-4 senior center had a sly smile on her face. She knew exactly what was coming. The only question was, could the St. Joseph Benton Lady Cardinals stop it from happening? They couldn’t.

Hannah Linthacum made it look easy. The Lady Jays junior totaled 27 points and 18 rebounds Thursday night to lead Jefferson City to a 51-33 victory against the Battle Spartans in Central Missouri Activities Conference action at Fleming Fieldhouse.

Three offensive weapons proved to be the difference. Blair Oaks had three players score in double figures Thursday night as the Lady Falcons downed the Jefferson City Lady Jays 78-53.
