Roadworks lasting up to eight weeks on Llanidloes Road in Newtown are set to begin next week. Powys County Council has announced that work under Nantoer Bridge to the college and theatre will take place from Monday, March 15. The speed limit will be reduced from 40mph to 30mph, and the existing traffic lane under the bridge will be used to create an extra wide pavement for walkers and cyclists. Cllr Heulwen Hulme, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “We are really pleased to be able to start work on these safety improvements on Llanidloes Road. The work will make it significantly safer for pedestrians and cyclists using the shared use footpath under Nantoer Bridge to get to and from work, college and for leisure activities.

THE speed limit is set to be reduced on A4811 Llanidloes Road in Newtown. Powys County Council has submitted a public notice stating its intention to enforce a 30 miles per hour speed limit on the road, down from 40mph. The stretch affected will be from Pavilion Court to Heol Ashley at the college roundabout. The decision to make the change was delegated to Powys County Council with environment portfolio holder Cllr Heulwen Hulme notified in December.
