I mean, it was only a matter of time, right? Nintendo’s hit open-world game Tears of the Kingdom features a surprisingly robust and dynamic physics system you can build with, so it stands to reason that if you create a few “if this then that” scenarios, then bam, you basically have the working fundamentals of a computer system. And that’s exactly what players are doing now. Go ahead and get the “can it run Doom?” joke out of your system. I’ll wait...

This paper considers task scheduling in solarpowered Internet of things (IoT) networks where devices are capable of sharing energy wirelessly. Our aim is to minimize the completion time of all tasks. We outline a novel mixed integer linear program (MILP) to schedule tasks and determine whether devices share their harvested energy via radio frequency (RF) in each time slot. The MILP considers the coupling between the energy level at devices across time slots. It also considers the dependency of t...

I love learning how logic designers of the past solved tricky problems with innovative solutions. The more I delve into this sort of thing, the more I say to myself, “Wow! I would never have thought of that!” A great example is binary coded decimal (BCD) because there’s a lot more to this topic than…

Alpha particle therapy, such as diffusing alpha-emitters radiation therapy (DaRT) and targeted alpha-particle therapy (TAT), exploits the short range and high linear energy transfer (LET) of alpha particles to destroy cancer cells locally with minimal damage to surrounding healthy cells. Dosimetry for DaRT and TAT is challenging, as their radiation sources produce mixed radiation fields of α particles, β particles and γ rays. There is currently no dosimeter for real-time in vivo dosimetry of ...
