A LOOK FORWARD: What Countries Will Fight Over When Green Energy Dominates March 16, 2021 EnergyNow Media

(Bloomberg) The Rand Corporation’s been designing war games with the Pentagon since the 1950s, modelling such hard-nosed security scenarios as a two-front U.S. war with China and Russia. Now the think tank is turning its realpolitik tool kit to a question more often associated with environmental dreamers: How will clean energy change the world?Rand is among the small but growing number of research organizations, universities and at least one European government that have started gaming out the gritty geopolitical implications of a globe dominated by green energy. It’s the latest sign that the once quaint idea of renewable energy displacing fossil fuels has gone mainstream.Last year was a turning point. China, the world’s biggest polluter, finally joined the cascade of nations and companies setting target dates for carbon neutrality. The European Union for the first time generated more electricity from carbon-free sources than polluting ones. Joe Biden won the U.S. presidency, bringing an ambitious climate agenda to the White House.

Under GT3 regulations, the race-ready 720S isn’t on par with the road-going 720S in terms of horsepower. What the British automaker calls GT3X is a track-only machine that doesn’t follow the rulebook to a T, which is why the twin-turbo engine develops 740 horsepower in push-to-pass mode. 12 photos
Factory test driver Rob Bell mentions
“an extra 200 horsepower” over the GT3, which is obviously a lot for a car that isn’t hindered by the weight of airbags, ESP, and other nannies. Every force-fed engine is assembled by hand, and the biggest differences over the 720S in GT3 specification come courtesy of blueprinted cylinder heads, upgraded cooling, bigger turbos, and manifolds.

Most bands release debut LPs in their infancy. Well, not Nonagon. The Chicago trio, formed around 2004, initially struck their defiant poses on a series of EPs and singles as a post-hardcore outfit schooled in sounding like a caged beast unleashed on the streets. On the 12 songs of their debut full-length,
They Birds, which Controlled Burn Records released on 12-inch vinyl and your favorite streaming platform on 3 March, Nonagon still sounds angry as hell. The barbed-wire guitars slash at listeners’ ears, and the frenetic rhythm section packs a wallop. But the new LP also flashes hints of true-hearted melodicism that the band say is the product of not overcomplicating the songwriting process. Instead, they let the songs breathe and percolate a bit.

The tires weren't warm, the temperature wasn't high enough, the road surface wasn't grippy, the sun was in the driver's eye, AND he hadn't had his coffee that day - no excuses, no matter how childish or founded, can get the McLaren 600LT out of this one. 8 photos
The thing is, the Macca shouldn't really feel the need to defend itself and its performance. This race was skewed from the first moment it was planned because nothing, apart from the mostly insignificant weight, was lined up in the 600LT's favor.
When racing AWD cars, McLarens tend to lag behind after the launch, thanks to their rear-wheel-drive-only architecture. The British super sports cars can't get all the traction they need to put down their immense reserves of power, so either a lot of it gets wasted through wheelspin, or the driver has to step lightly on the throttle to make sure they dose the oomph just right and keep the tires in control.

If you're behind the wheel of either a McLaren 720S or 765LT, then things are going well for you. However, a new video from Hennessey highlights the difference in performance between these six-figure machines.
With 710 horsepower (529 kilowatts) from a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, the 720S is far from an underpowered vehicle. The factory specs say that it can reach 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 212 mph (341 kph).

The 765LT takes the 720S and turns up the heat. Its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 has 755 horsepower (563 kilowatts) and weighs 136 pounds (61.69 kilograms) less than the basic version. According to McLaren official specs, it gets to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds, but the performance improvements increase as the speed grows. The automaker claims the Long Tail hits 124 mph (200 km/h) in 7.0 seconds. The supercar covers the quarter-mile in 9.9 seconds, and on a prepped strip, this time can be even lower.

On top of that, they also seem to defy numbers and logic by launching pretty hard for something that sends as much as 800 hp (in the new Senna) to a single pair of wheels. The car we have here, however, is the discontinued 675LT model producing, as the name more than suggests, 675 PS (666 hp).
Compared to the modern McLaren lineup, the 675LT is down on power. The current Long Tail develops 765 PS (754 hp), whereas the one we see the most often, the 720S, puts out - you guessed it - 720 PS (710 hp). Still, 666 hp will never be a low amount of power, especially when you look at what it's up against.
