ST. LOUIS — The Loop Trolley, as planned, will shut down after Sundays run until next spring.

The date for resuming service has yet to be determined; a Federal Transit Administration official wants that to happen in June.

A spokeswoman for Bi-State Development said the trolley will not run seven days a week and they still don't know if tickets will be free.

Under a newly revised agreement, Bi-State Development Agency is required to operate the trolley four days a week through June 2025 — but will not be financially responsible for the project.

The streetcar line has been closed since 2019. In October, it was turned down for $1.26 million in federal highway funds to operate the trolley for two years.

“I sure thought it would be operating during the Christmas holidays,” Edwards said last week. “That would have been glorious. Families could ride it and have this wonderful experience” as they sampled the area’s shops and eateries. But the COVID-19 pandemic kept trolley backers from implementing their plan to resume service last April for four days a week, using money that had accrued in its sales tax district’s coffers.
