Travelers may struggle to find beaches in California that allow bonfires. However, you still have good options for a summer evening on the sand.

Laguna Beach continues to consider reinstalling wood-burning fire pits at Aliso Beach. The city will also be adding an observation camera at the location.

Our City Council met on May 16 to discuss, among other things, whether to replace the six firepits at Aliso Beach that mysteriously disappeared over the course of the transition from County to City jurisdiction.  

This is a follow-up to the letter published in the Indy on Jan. 13, speaking about Salt Creek/Aliso Beach. Come March 1, 2023, Laguna Beach lifeguards will manage Aliso Beach. I am surprised that the 'locals/resident' sticker will not allow us to park at Aliso. I try to support local businesses and frequently eat at Lost Pier after a morning of pickleball at Lang. 

Finally our marine safety dept will guard the beaches in South Laguna, and public works will assess needed improvements and day-to-day maintenance of trails and stairways from Coast Highway because now the City owns the beaches and access ways to the beaches of South Laguna.

As beach closures from the recent oil spill keep tourists and beachgoers away from Laguna Beach, local businesses may face a financial burden.
