The Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that it has approved fare hike for rail lines LRT-1 and LRT-2, but will defer its implementation upon the orders of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for a “thorough study” on its economic impact on commuters.
A progressive group condemned a recent decision by the Supreme Court to dismiss its petition against the implementation of fare hikes within the MRT and LRT systems that have been stalled eight years ago stating that this would lead to more rounds of increases in the long run.
Officials of the Light Rail Transit Authority, Metro Rail Transit Line 3 and the Light Rail Manila Corporation were quizzed by stakeholders, Friday, regarding the former s push to increase fares in the LRT-1, LRT-2 and MRT-3 amid the Congress already approved budget in 2023.
