Research by the Stop Stockouts Project shows contraceptives were the top drug shortage reported by patients who visited a clinic between April and June.

A new report from the Stop Stockouts Project (SSP) has found that contraceptives now represent the biggest share of medicine stockouts. A survey was undertaken by SSP in collaboration with the Ritshidze project from April to June 2022. The report forms part of a number of other reports the SSP has done since 2013. This was the findings of the latest report.ย

South Africa is seeing fewer medication stockouts than in previous years but contraception shortages continue to be a problem in the country, according to a new report from the Stop Stockouts Project.

SA women using public facilities still struggle to access birth control. This is according to a new survey released on Tuesday, which reflects that contraceptives constitute the majority of medications that are in shortage across 403 facilities in seven provinces.
