A planned power outage in Macassar had residents hot under the collar when the power supply disruption, which was supposed to last for a mere few hours on Monday 22 January, persisted until Wednesday (24 January).

Gunmen attacked three City of Cape Town contract employees in Macassar over the weekend and robbed them of their valuables.



The Cape Town community has been plagued by power outages that sometimes lasted for days due to old and failing Eskom infrastructure that the utility failed to protect from infrastructure vandals.

Western Cape police are concerned after a fourth body was found dumped along Macassar Road, Cape Town, in the space of just over a week.

While police have launched an investigation, the community believes prolonged power outages in the area are to blame.

Macassar ward councillor Peter Helfrich is outraged that a fourth body has been found in the area, saying the area has become a dumping ground for murder victims blaming Eskom and the police.

A third body has been found in Macassar, outside of Cape Town, in under a week.

Residents of a suburb 40km outside Cape Town plagued by repeated power outages on top of load-shedding are not only “gatvol” with Eskom but fear criminals are taking advantage of the darkness to dump bodies there.

Western Cape police are investigating the fatal shooting of three people, one of whom was a three-year-old boy, in Samora Machel, Cape Town, at the weekend. 



Macassar police are investigating carjacking and kidnapping cases after a man and woman were hijacked in the area last week.
