DERRY — The morning began with a cool drizzle but Derry continued on with its Memorial Day remembrances Monday, including the traditional parade and ceremonies held in MacGregor Park.

Memorial Day is Monday, May 27, a time to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to serve and protect this country.

Bullets rip through a Third Ward neighborhood not once, but twice in just a matter of days. The incidents caught on camera are sparking a call to the community to team up with city leaders to devise a plan for change.

Texas police have arrested and charged a Houston man after he allegedly robbed a group of people at gunpoint in Clark Park and then forced one victim to MacGregor Park, where he assaulted her.

Josue Carranza is accused of attacking a group of people at Clark Park in north Houston and then kidnapping and sexually assaulting one of the victims.

JayVe Montgomery, a Nashville-based composer, and chatterbird, a Nashville-based chamber ensemble, have announced further details surrounding a year-long field recording project focused on capturing the sounds and history of the “drowned towns” of historic Black communities found throughout the Southeastern United States.

When winter storms force closure of Highway 21 in Port Elgin, the closure location will remain at Concession 6, commonly called CAW Road.  

The 65-acre park along Brays Bayou is expected to get an extended trail, new amphitheater, pool and tennis center upgrades.
