In the past, Public Works hired vendors to provide video inspections, and the have engineers watch the videos and manually determine defects, a process that would take months or even longer.

Construction is more than halfway complete on a new biofilter meant to reduce the sewage odor and protect pipes in a Macomb County neighborhood.

The four biofilter projects are being paid with $12 million of the $170 million in federal American Rescue Plan dollars the county received and will not cause a rate increase.

STERLING HEIGHTS/FRASER — Approximately 6,000 tons of sediment is being removed from a major sewer in Macomb County, the Macomb Interceptor Drain.

Candice Miller said in a video called the sediment “like beach sand” that 40,000 years ago was likely was part of a water shore.

Crews are working to remove thousands of tons of sediment that have built up in a major Macomb County sewer in an effort to keep the system from collapsing.
