Waffles + Moch i, launches tomorrow on Netflix and, in many ways, it’s as wholesome as they come. A mixture of puppetry, animation and documentary, it follows the adventures of two puppets: Waffles, a creature born from an unthinkable act of union between a lady yeti and a male frozen waffle, and her best friend Mochi, a mochi. Waffles and Mochi work at a supermarket owned by Mrs Obama, from which they fly around the world in a magic shopping trolley to find out about different ingredients su...

Dipsy was always the maverick of the Teletubbies, the one who refused to go along with the others. In many ways, he reflected John Simmit, the man inside the three-stone lime green suit, who proudly brought his heritage to the role. “Being a Cuban-Jamaican-Brummie and coming from a comedy and music background, I used that to my advantage and there were a lot of cultural references,” Simmit tells HuffPost UK. “Dipsy would say, ‘Papa Come Papa Come To Po’, which was actually my take on...

A RUSTY metal bench outside the County Ground has been refurbished by South Swindon Parish Council.

The Daily Mail Henry Deedes watched the Health Secretary’s Downing Street briefing late on Monday and described him as ‘his usual zingy, Saturday night game-show host self. Part Leslie Crowther of The Price Is Right fame, part Zebedee from The Magic Roundabout.’ “He seems immune to the rusty grind most of us experience on Mondays,” he said. “To be fair, the year he’s had he’s probably forgotten what a weekend is.” He announced more than 12 million had been vaccinated a...

The Wombles Credit:  Moviestore/Shutterstock I first heard about the Wombles when my agent, Liz Channon, told me that the BBC was making a new children’s show. It was 1972 and I met Ivor Wood, who had been one of the animators on The Magic Roundabout, and was shown the little studio at Film Fair, a small production company based off Marylebone High Street. There was a tabletop set with 12in-high Wombles, the studio was lit and they were shooting one frame, moving a character around, and then...

Today we’ve gone back to the Sixties for our look into the archives. The year is 1965 and it was an important one for the Beatles – their film Help premiered in London and they met Elvis Presley, for the first and only time. The Rolling Stones released (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction in the UK. The Pennine Way long-distance footpath was officially opened. Meanwhile, in sport, Manchester United won the Football League First Division title and Sir Stanley Matthews played his final First...

It might not surprise many UK professionals that the longest hours are worked by the most qualified. 1 And all too many professionals will be familiar with ironically named ‘magic roundabout’. For the uninitiated, this is ‘beasting’ 2 for the professions. It requires a Digital  3 to ‘throw’ a series of all-nighters interrupted only by trips on the ‘roundabout’ … a wait and return Uber to their home for a shower, change and then a sleep-deprived return to work. We have hear...
