Dennis Nilsen's killing spree finally ended in 1983 when chunks of rotting human flesh were found in blocked drains at his flat.

The Nilsen Files, which aired last night on BBC2, recalled how at least three of Nilsens survivors had reported their attacks to police, only to have them brushed off as an assumed lovers tiff.

Dennis Nilsen was a Scottish serial killer who murdered at least 12 young men and boys between 1978 and 1983 at two North London addresses.
