The heat kicks into high gear through the end of the week before peaking on Saturday. A cooldown will follow as a surge of tropical moisture moves into the area.

Even though highs will remain in the 90s, a passing cold front will deliver drier weather and less humid air for much of the workweek. However, some changes could be in store by the weekend.

After an active week of weather, Mother Nature flips the script into the weekend. Drier air will move in and eliminate storm chances. Temperatures will also soar into the mid-90s each day.

A few more storms are possible into Thursday, but the long-awaited pattern shift finally appears to take over by the weekend. Temperatures will respond, with weekend highs soaring into the mid-90s.

TANGIPAHOA PARISH - Throughout Tangipahoa Parish Tuesday, rain, strong winds and two tornadoes pounded the area. 

A few more storms are possible into Thursday, but the long-awaited pattern shift finally appears to take over by the weekend. Temperatures will respond, with weekend highs soaring into the mid-90s.

UPDATE - 1 p.m. Tuesday: Despite what computer model guidance suggested all morning long, the Storm Station expects a wave of showers and thunderstorms to pass through the capital area on Tuesday afternoon. Confidence is growing in this scenario based on radar trends and an analysis of the overall environment.

After a soggy weekend, we still wont rule out some isolated storms to start the week. Afterward, rain will be difficult to find as a new pattern takes over.

Rain gear will continue to be handy over the weekend. While it will not be raining at every point, most will receive rain at some point.

The capital region continues to dodge showers and thunderstorms for the back half of the weekend. Into next week, a warmer and drier pattern takes over.
