Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai on Thursday slammed the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government for refusing permission for the Eru Thazhuvuthal festival in Tamil Nadu.

A day after 26 people were injured and one died during the Jallikattu in Palmedu village, Madurai District Collector Aneesh Sekhar has said that extra measures have been taken for the safe conduct of the annual bull-taming sport.

The popular bull-taming sport Jallikattu also known as Eru Thazhuvuthal and Mancuvirattu started in full swing on Monday in the Palamedu of Madurai district.

An intense sport, Jallikattu mandates participants to take control of the bull by holding on to its hump for as long as they can. Three villages of Madurai in Tamil Nadu will be hosting the sport this Pongal season. 

The Jallikattu 2023 event will take place in three villages - January 15 in Avaniyapuram, January 16 in Palamedu, and January 17 in Alanganallur.

Ahead of the festival of Pongal, bull trainers in Tamil Nadus Madurai are gearing up for the famous Jallikattu.
