think it s necessary to pick that fight with the president. and you re hearing some frustrations with republicans about the republican leadership s stance on this, including mitch mcconnell, who has been quiet so far. jeff flake, just moments ago raising concerns that mitch mcconnell has not said anything since president launched all of those attacks against robert mueller over the weekend, wolf. manu raju up on capitol hill, thank you. let s talk about all of the breaking news in the russia investigation with the ranking democrat in the thousanhouse intelligence committee, congressman adam schiff. thanks for joining us. good to be with you, wolf. so the official line from the white house is the president isn t thinking about firing the robert mueller. how believable is that? it s not very credible when you consider the fact that there s good reporting that the president actually had ordered his firing earlier in a fit of pique or when concerned about the latest russia developm
think is that none of this has to pass any sort of legal muster. all of the facts or accusations that roy moore s lawyer just laid out are for political purposes, purely. to plant a seed of doubt in voters minds that maybe these women s claims are not credible. to give space for republicans who want to vote for roy moore but feel uncomfortable about these allegations to say, well, maybe these were all made up as well. this is all a political exercise. i want to go to manu raju up on capitol hill where there is enormous pressure from republican leaders for roy moore to drop out of this race. somehow this goi how is this going to play up on capitol hill? reporter: it s not going to play particularly well, particularly among the leaders of the republican party. the senate and house leaders as well as most of the rank and file senators who have come out to say that mr. moore needs to drop out of the race and get out
pressure potentially. he could have said that more strongly today and we ve not yet seen him play a leadership role in any piece of legislation. this could certainly be one of them. that would be the different dynamic. you re right, rebecca, some of the conservative house members may go along. he has sway with them. this is what the potential leadership is about here. but this is more of a challenge than people think. anything with immigration related to it never seems to get far. senator john cornyn of texas just told our manu raju up on capitol hill that any project for large-scale, comprehensive immigration reform would pretty much guarantee failure. he said, we ve tried comprehensive for as long as i ve been here. we ve never succeeded because people have asked for a pathway to citizenship, for example, and we ve just never been able to do that. that would be a mistake.
meanwhile, paul manafort has registered as a foreign agent. can you give me some context. paul manafort has registered as a foreign agent. his firm received over $17 million from a pro-russia group that was in ukraine for years and i retroactively filed those documents. he was a trump campaign chairman for a few months in 2016. the press secretary, shooeean spicer, has tried to distance him from the campaign saying he played a very limited role for a very limited amount of time though he was the chairman of the trump campaign. thank you so much at the white house for us this afternoon. so you heard the latest on the house investigation there our own manu raju up on capitol hill actually caught up with the co-chair of the senate investigation into russia. reporter: do you believe we re any closer to that key central question about collusion at this point? well, i would only say that
put forward a bipartisan report. very quickly, manu, the information, the discussions that nunes is talking about occurred after the november 8th election, during the transition, not before. is that right? yeah, that s right. during the transition period. we know but that s all we really know at this point. so clearly not during the election period which the president has been saying so far, wolf. in his four tweets he had almost three weeks ago, he was saying that president obama ordered the surveillance, ordered the wiretapping of trump tower during the campaign. obviously, that s a very, very significant difference. manu raju up on capitol hill also doing a great job for us. let s talk about all of this with our panel. joining us uchis, gloria borger david chalian and the correspondent for the new yorker magazine, ryan lizza. is it enough, the little apology he gave, his fellow intelligence
