It’s Maple weekend in Ontario. Locally, Elmira will be celebrating it's 60th maple syrup festival. But there’s more to maple syrup than pancakes and waffles. Food columnist Jasmine Mangalaseril talked to food and drink professionals in Waterloo Region who use maple syrup in different and unique ways.

Sugar bushes across Ontario will be opening their doors to the public to celebrate a successful start to the season.

The Parker Family Maple Farm is hosting a “Solar Eclipse Viewing Party” on April 8 and the farm located at 1043 Slosson Rd. in West Chazy.

Spring has sprung and the sweetest start to the season can be found at the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this Saturday.

Because of last weekend's snow storm many maple producers have decided to celebrate Maine Maple Weekend this weekend!

Maple Weekend gives syrup producers the chance to share their product with the local community. Visitors learn about the production process, from tapping the trees to the bottle that ends up in stores.

Many maple farms, predominantly family-owned, are suffering as winters become shorter and shorter. It means the time frame for making the syrup is shrinking.

State officials point out that New York is second only to the state of Vermont in maple production.

Farmer Ben Simons, along with Kyle and Gordon Tibbitts, the fifth generation of maple producers at Tibbitts Maple in New Hartford, spoke at the Oneida County Board of Legislators meeting on Wednesday about Maple Weekend.

All things maple will be spotlighted as Maple Weekends are celebrated across the state this weekend and next.
