The city posted an unsafe structure notice Thursday evening at the Port Royale condominium, Miami Beach spokesperson Melissa Berthier said in an email.

Main support beam that had been identified for repair shifted and a crack grew; residents had 2 hours to leave

The 2021 disaster focused scrutiny on the structural integrity of aging towers throughout Florida, especially along its coastlines.

“I’ve seen the issues for many years,” one resident said.

The building is down the street from a condo that collapsed in 2021, killing nearly 100 people. Officials ordered an evacuation of residents Thursday.
