FAYETTEVILLE -- A man accused of stabbing his wife to death last year pleaded guilty to capital murder in Washington County Circuit Court on Tuesday afternoon and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

A Fayetteville man pleads guilty to killing his wife and has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to court documents.

Marcus McBurney Joiner of Fayetteville pleaded guilty in the killing of his wife, Dr. Amy Joiner.

This most recent delay has been the third time the hearing has been postponed for Marcus Joiner, who is accused of killing his wife outside of their home.

The trial was originally scheduled for July 11, 2023, but the hearing was pushed back to Oct. 24, before being pushed back once again to Jan. 23, 2024, reports say.

It’s been six months since 39-year-old Dr. Amy Joiner, of Fayetteville, was stabbed to death outside of her home.
