we are learning more about the case against a science accused of trying to sell classified government information. good evening, i m doreen gentzler. i m jim vance. his name is stewart nozette. he was in court this afternoon. the justice department says he tried to sell some of the country s most guarded secrets to an fbi agent who was posing as an israeli intelligence officer. christ gordon has more on this. reporter: today stewart nozette was advised of the charges against him of espionage. he faces a possible sentence of life in prison. stewart nozette s wife and lawyer declined to comment as they left the u.s. courthouse after his appearance before federal magistrate deborah robertson. i m the principal investigator. reporter: this shows nozette in his role as scientist. he had the equivalent of top-secret clearances from the department of energy. the criminal complaint on which he was arrested says he attempted to sell information about u.s. nuclear weaponry and
i m doreen gentzler. department of justice announced charges of three men accused of trying to bribe the chairman of the taxi cab commission. they were trying to pay the chairman to get individual taxi cab operator licensees. dorothy spencer is downtown with more on this. reporter: dozens of cab drivers were indicted today on bribery charges, the amounts reach into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. 39 people, many of them d.c. cabbies have been indicted in a massive federal bribery investigation. the indictments unsealed today allege that the suspects conspired to bribe leon swayne, chair of the d.c. taxi cab commission. he was working with the government in an undercover role and cooperated fully in the investigation. for these three men are accused of handing out $220,000 of cash to swayne to obtain multivehicle taxi cab company licensees. they became more valuable when the city council passed a moratorium on them a year ago. the suspects agreed to give the chairman
muhammed went on a shooting spree with teenage accomplice lee boyd malveao in 2002. it left ten people dead. news4 pat collins is live at the scene of that murder with more. reporter: october 9, 2002. this sunoco station, manassas, virginia. dean myers is pumping gas when he is shot and killed by the snipers. it was a murder conviction in this sunoc case that sent john allen muhammed to death row. sniper john allen muhammed now has a date with death. november 10th. muhammed is set to be executed in the commonwealth of virginia. paul ebert is the prince william county prosecutor who put muhammed on death row. i don t take any pride in obtaining the death penalty for anybody. i often said the death penalty is reserved for the worst of the worst. he caused a lot of problems, a lot of heartache to people from which they ll never recover. at the time there was a lot of anger. i would have killed him with my bare hands then, if i could have. seven years go bynd it s different
