Henry Board of Commission considering FY2022 budget, possible millage rate increase

County officials are estimating revenue at $190 million and expenditures at an estimated $191.7 million. Finance Director David Smith presented three scenarioes during a March 30 budget workshop. Two would require the use of fund balance — approximately $6 million — to balance the budget. The third, recommended by staff, would increase the millage rate by one mill, generating approximately $7.9 million. The revenue would be used to fund public safety budget requests — the majority of which are personnel. According to a manpower study, Henry County Police Chief Mark Amermann said the county’s Police Department is short 135 officers. “Henry County is still growing rapidly, and we need to keep up with the times,” Amermann said. He added that Animal Control calls have doubled while the Fire Department, E911 and Emergency Management calls have also increased.
