The Aiken Corporation took a step Wednesday morning that allows the city to build a downtown mixed-use building in which the Savannah River National Laboratory could lease space. The corporations board voted unanimously to approve an agreement with the city that outlines the role the corporation will play in the construction of the building.

The Aiken City Council could consider an agreement with the Aiken Corporation to build and operate a mixed-use building downtown as soon as next month.

The Aiken Corporation is moving forward with finding a designer for a mixed-use building to be built in downtown Aiken. Aiken Mayor Teddy Milner and Aiken Corporation board member Jason Rabun provided an update on the selection of a designer during and after the Aiken Chamber of Commerce First Friday event held at Newberry Hall.
