The Sullivan County Board of Education voted to retain the budget request is made back in May, one that the County Commission Budget Committee last week voted to reject in what the chairman called a procedural" move.

The request from the Sullivan County Board of Education would require a 37-cent increase in the county property tax rate and give 15% across-the-board races to most school system employees, including teaches.

Sullivan County Commissioner Hunter Locke of Kingpsort withdrew his resolution to downsize the 24-member commission to 14 members, saying he may come back with another reduction plan.

The Sullivan County Board of Education approved bidding that project, expected to cost about $1.3 million, din a 7-0 vote Thursday. The board also approved various other capital projects.

They were responding to a question at the Republicans of Kingsport or ROK forum Monday evening about things like critical race theory and transgenderism.

However, the candidates in Sullivan County and Kingsport school board races were almost all opposes and/or could not support Gov. Bill Lees expansion of a voucher plan using public funds for private education.

The estimate is based on a building of about 25,000 square feet with six swimming lanes, a concession stand that could serve swimming and supplement football events and provide wrestling space.
