An extremely rare white leucistic alligator has been born at a Florida reptile park.

The reptile, measuring 49cm (19.2 inches), is reportedly one of only seven leucistic alligators in the world.

The alligator, said to be the rarest variation of the American alligator, is descended from a nest of them found in the swamps of Louisiana in 1987.

It's also the first-ever alligator of its kind to be born in human care and makes Gatorland the owner of the largest collection of rare leucistic alligators in the world.

American alligators were placed on the Endangered Species List in 1967 and then removed from the list in 1987.
