A 40-year-old Belgian man who was accused of drunk driving had his charges dropped — because he has a medical condition that makes him produce alcohol naturally. 

A Florida man spent years wondering why colleagues and coworkers questioned his alcohol consumption. He said he hadn't been drinking — especially with him working as a teacher and basketball coach — but was called into the principal's office on and off for several years.

When Mark Mongiardo was in his second year of teaching, someone commented that he smelled of alcohol.

Mark Mongiardo, 40, from Florida, was only diagnosed with auto-brewery syndrome after he had lost his career and had to move in with the in laws over allegations that he was drinking.

Testing for the condition takes hours and requires patients to consume sugar and carbohydrates and have their BAC tested every 30 minutes.
