A recreation program designed to support connection, play and physical activity among students at the University of Lethbridge has received a sizable investment.

Each year nearly 15,000 students will study post-secondary in Lethbridge, with many coming from out of town. Once theyve completed their education, however, many choose to start their career outside the Lethbridge region -- a pattern Lethbridge stakeholders hope to reverse.

"We don't want to just talk about that we have problems with mental health, we want to talk about how we can improve our mental health,” said Robinson.

Almost half of Albertas post-secondary students were victims of sexual- or gender-based violence over the past year, according to a survey commissioned by the provincial government.

The online platform has already been implemented by other schools in Canada and aims to support victims of sexual and gender-based violence.

The University of Lethbridge is hoping several new student lounges throughout the campus will help enhance mental health.
