However, the candidates in Sullivan County and Kingsport school board races were almost all opposes and/or could not support Gov. Bill Lees expansion of a voucher plan using public funds for private education.

The deadline is noon Thursday, Dec. 14, for the Sullivan County and Kingsport boards of education races. The primaries are March 5, the general election Aug. 1.

Also, in another district Zack Smith has picked up for the Republican primary which is also where Vicars filed.

So far, six people among four districts have picked up or filed to run as Republicans in the county school board races, while three have picked up as independents. One has picked up and one has filed in the Kingsport races, both as Republicans, for three at-large seats.
