SA's permanent representative to the UN said the country would take further legal action should Israel ignore the provisional measures set out by the ICJ.

The Security Council reviewed Wednesday (Jan. 28) the International Court of Justice order indicating provisional measures in the case concerning the Application of the Genocide convention, as the deadly war in Gaza continues.

During an open session of the security council on Wednesday night, South African ambassador to the UN - Mathu Joyini - said the UN could not claim the importance of international law in some cases, and not in others. 

International law experts say South Africa's genocide case against Israel could put political pressure on Israel and its allies, forcing a change of tactics in the Gaza war.
