A car accident last year left a local jiu jitsu athlete with a traumatic brain injury, putting a pause on his training and life, but now, he is back in full force

Matt Freels is recovering from a traumatic brain injury that left him nearly comatose. His father said after he was released to outpatient care though, his rehabilitation was reduced due to insurance.

In March, Matt Freels was making his way back home from a mixed martial arts tournament when he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his car just outside of Visalia. The crash left him with a traumatic brain injury and he's been in the hospital ever since.
