The News was named “Newspaper of the Year” in its division at the Osman C. Hooper Non-Daily Newspaper Competition, presented by the Ohio News Media Association, or ONMA.

In a moving tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the village of Yellow Springs came together Monday, Jan. 15, to commemorate the 41st anniversary of the federal holiday, established in honor of the civil rights icon on what would have been his 95th birthday.

The annual Martin Luther King Jr. march, magic shows, a baseball diamond dedication, the return of Community Thanksgiving — 2023 was a great year to gather in Yellow Springs.

Eighteen Antioch College students became the college’s newest alumni following commencement ceremonies Saturday, June 24. 

Despite the loss, the News was happy to accept a handful of individual awards, including first place for news coverage for the entire staff.

In honor of beloved community member Marco “De Ohio” Comegys, who died unexpectedly on April 21, a day-long celebration was staged throughout the village on Friday, May 19.

At the most recent Village Council meeting on Monday, May 1, Council members voted to financially contribute $40,000 in support to local affordable housing developer Home, Inc. and $5,000 to local nonprofit YS Pride.

Yellow Springs came alive in 2022 with manifold events, celebrations, commemorations, new arrivals and departures.

With the theme of "Contributions, Big and Small," this year's Guide to Yellow Springs shines a light on the revolutionary inventions, pioneering patents and novel ideas that originated within the 2.7 square miles of the village.
