The polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Those who are in line at 7:30 will be allowed to vote.

Nine candidates, including four incumbents, are running for four of the five council seats.

Early voting runs through Nov. 4. The polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays during that period.

The town of Maiden is getting a new fire department headquarters as part of their transition from a volunteer-based operation to a full-time paid department.

The races in Newton for mayor and city council have attracted the most interest by far. Three candidates are running for mayor – incumbent Eddie Haupt, business owner Jeff Allen

Incumbent Eddie Haupt is seeking his second term in office against Councilman Jerry Hodge and businessman Jeff Allen. Filing officially ends at noon on Friday.

A familiar face returned to the Maiden Town Council earlier this month when former Councilman Ronnie Williams was appointed to fill the vacancy left by Danny Hipps.

The two newest members of the Maiden Town Council took their seats on Dec. 14.

The Maiden Town Council is set to get two new members while two incumbents lost their seats in Tuesday’s elections.
