The Mount Royal Cemetery is considering legal action against the City of Montreal as access to the site would be limited under plans to close Camillien-Houde Way to traffic.

In September, the City of Montreal announced plans to close Camillien-Houde to traffic in 2027.

“By deciding to permanently close the Camillien-Houde route, the city is acting illegally and contravening the rights of (the cemetery) as well as its contractual obligations.”

Six months before Mayor Valérie Plante announced Camillien-Houde Ways revamp, her administration was also cautioned about a 95-year-old legal document that could throw a wrench into the plan.

Some say it will reduce access to mountain and increase traffic in nearby areas.
