A Long Beach Police Department officer has been suspended for allegedly making ``biased and prejudiced remarks in electronic communications,'' and authorities are reviewing his past use of force incidents and arrest reports, police said today. Officer Maxwell Schroeder, a five-year veteran of the department, was suspended Thursday.

The department said it has been investigating Maxwell Schroeder since August for "biased and prejudiced remarks in electronic communications with a non-LBPD employee."

After an investigation, a Long Beach Police officer suspended will have his case reviewed for final determination of his status.

More than a dozen current and former Torrance, Calif., police officers and recruits exchanged racist text messages for years. The discovery could undermine hundreds of cases in which those officers either testified or made arrests.

The department said in a statement they are also reviewing previous use of force incidents and arrest reports made by Officer Maxwell Schroeder, who was also named this week in an extensive investigation by the Los Angeles Times
