After twice continuing to later meetings the public hearing for the assessments for the 2022 street improvement projects, the Willmar City Council on Tuesday adopted the final assessment roll with a 30% reduction across the board.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is working on finalizing plans for a U.S. Highway 12 project to run around downtown Willmar. The preliminary plans presented at the Willmar City Council meeting March 7, and supported by the council, included taking the current four-lane stretch of road and turning it into a three-lane corridor with a dedicated left turn lane. The hope is the change will reduce the number of crashes that occur.

The Willmar City Council has given the city staff permission to implement a state policy requiring COVID-19 vaccines or testing for employees. However, permission was given only after Mayor Marv Calvin broke a tie. The state policy applies to employers with at least 100 employees.
