High winds closed highways overnight west of North Platte Saturday into Sunday and caused blizzard conditions in the far northwest of the Nebraska Panhandle.

Over the holidays, on Dec. 26, 2023, the blizzard that passed through Chase County produced so much snow that the roads had to be closed down, leaving approximately 170 people stranded.

A McCook woman died from injuries suffered Wednesday morning when her vehicle struck the back of an unoccupied Nebraska Public Power District truck.
