IMD weather alert: The report also suggests no significant changes in weather are expected over India.  

Weather update: The IMD has issued an orange alert for hailstorms, storms and rain in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Chandigarh over the next few days due to an active Western disturbance, IMD said. IMD weather forecast: This comes as a much-needed respite after days of blistering heatwave that gripped the nation. 

A heatwave is declared when the maximum temperature is 40 degrees Celsius or higher, or remains 4.5 degrees above normal over two consecutive days.

Making the announcement on May 14 in a press release, the weather department issued a batch of warnings in relation to cyclone Mocha, rainfalls and heatwaves.

Cyclone Mocha: The storm developing in the Bay of Bengal may intensify into a severe cyclone with winds blowing up to 120 km/h over the sea, said Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) chief DR M Mohapatra.  The cyclone is likely to intensify into a depression on May 9 and into Cyclone Mocha on May 10. It is expected to move towards the Bangladesh and Myanmar coasts around May 12. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are also expected to receive severe rainfall. 

Cyclone Mocha: The Odisha government has sent out alerts to 18 coastal and neighbouring districts as a measure of safety.

With many states receiving heavy downpours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rain alert across North and South states. IMD has predicted light, moderate to intense rain with likely thunderstorm and lightening over several states

Delhi experienced heavy rainfall causing the temperature to drop to 26.1 degrees Celsius, which is 13 degrees lower than the season’s normal. Thunderstorms and strong gusts are expected for the next 2-3 days, as well as light to moderate intensity rain over nearby areas. The IMD has predicted that northern cities in India, such as Delhi NCR, Haryana, Rajasthan, and more will receive a fresh spell of rainfall from Thursday.
