Mechanized Logging Operations Program News Today

Graduates of Maine’s only college training program for operators of mechanized logging equipment were recognized Thursday, Sept. 15 at a ceremony held at the site in Summit Township where they have spent weeks harvesting timber using sophisticated machines utilized in the contemporary logging industry.

Spaces remain available for Northern Maine Community College’s Mechanized Logging Operations summer 2022 cohort, scheduled to begin June 27 in the woods of Passadumkeag, approximately 20 miles northeast of Old Town. 

The forestry and wood harvesting program at Foster Career and Technical Education Center in Farmington was one of three state-wide to receive grants from a new program.

The Professional Logging Contractors of Maine and Northern Maine Community College applauded the announcement that $1 million in dedicated federal funding has been secured to expand the Mechanized Logging Operations Program in 2023 and 2024 and add Commercial Driver’s License training to the program to train the next generation of timber haulers.

Recruiting is now underway for students in the sixth cohort of the Mechanized Logging Operations Program, which is beginning its next 12-week class June 27 in the woods northeast of Old Town.
